Talktin and Easy "All in our Family of Trees" out this month!

Hello out there folks. Longtime SEACATS followers may know that we have another band called Talktin and Easy and that we have been working on a full-length record for quite awhile. Well this month of October 2018, the thing is finally coming out!

We just released “Garden Our Glow” and you can listen to it now. The full record comes out digitally on October 19th, followed by a release show at Chop Suey Seattle on October 20th. Details for that show here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1905128862866554/

We’re putting a big focus on Talktin this month, and will be posting a lotta stuff about it. Hope that’s okay. If you like SEACATS I believe you will like Talktin, it’s like all the same people and there is a lotta love put into it.

SEACATS seattle shows next two mondays

People really seem to be having a hard time remembering this so I will post about these shows AGAIN.  GET IT TOGETHER PEOPLE. I shouldn't have to be posting this stuff, our social media strategy is to draw people in, not share our stuff ourselves. So when I have to make a post like this it takes away really important time that I surely would've been using to write the next "wrecked". your loss, if this is what you prefer

So first up:

You may wanna "put it in your calendar" ugh COME ON

You may wanna "put it in your calendar" ugh COME ON

Okay and then next up on July 16th, through some miracle we got put on the gig with "everybody's darlings" Surf Curse. WOW! make sure to make this gig. We will be bringing the living room to the big stage for this one. we are hoping the "curseheads" will be fans

Update 5/1/18

What is up y'all. Spent some time in the studio last month, chipping away at new music. We have lotsa new stuff, it just goes slow because we all work jobs and have other bands and stuff. But we put up a new video, a submission to the NPR tiny desk contest, with a new song in it:

This song feels indicative of the direction of my new stuff. Lyrically a focus on honesty and storytelling, and a much more collaborative musical process. Anyways other than that we have a video for "My Shoes" coming in the next month or two, and also a couple shows coming up next week:

May 10th @ WWU Bellingham w/ Wigs

https://www.facebook.com/events/429119950891548/

May 11th in Corvallis for sinking city pop fest!

Talk to you more soon, thanks for always hanging out and checking back

Update 3/8/2018

Unfortunately the main thing that brings me to you today is a sad cause. We were not allowed to play the Upstream Music Festival this year in Seattle, and as a result, we were forced to place the upstream people on blast. It is all detailed in the video below.

Other than that, I do have  bit of good news. We have two Seattle area shows coming up in the next couple months. Info below:

March 25th in Seattle @ Black Lodge w/ The Co Founder, Kevin Nichols, and Talktin and Easy

April 16th in Seattle @ Barboza w/ Scarves + Nick Merz (Darto)

Hope to see you at these local shows, and we can lift each others spirits together :)

Update 1/17/18

Happy 2018. Wow, you can really tell I am a professional webmaster because we released a song a couple months ago and I didn't remember to post it on the website til now. Anyways.... better late than never right? We released this sweet new tune, "My Shoes" as part of our cassette-only compilation release "The Box Forever".

We got a little bit of good press about the single, from City Arts:

http://www.cityartsmagazine.com/december-2017s-cant-miss-songs-from-the-pnw/

We also made this neat trailer to announce "the box forever" too in case you missed it

We had an amazing time on tour w/ Mo Troper + the Assumptions, really warmed our hearts to get out in the world and play music again. Mo wrote a sweet tour blog while we were out, that has some very sweet mentions of us in this part: https://logger.believermag.com/post/a-luxury-pursuit-2

Also! Special Explosion (finally) put out the record that we all put years of work and heart into! You can give it a listen here:

Finally, we have a few upcoming NW shows:

Jan. 25th @ Kremwerk Seattle for DMM's Comp release!

https://www.facebook.com/events/269292826934166/

Feb. 16th @ Failhouse in Portland w/ Alien Boy, wrinkle, + babehoven

https://www.facebook.com/events/158379428123140/

Feb. 17th @ Cascadia Brewing Company w/ Creature Hole

https://www.facebook.com/events/2240135592879858/

Thanks for tuning in, working on a new record still, should be good, stay tuned

The Big 2: WESTERN US Tour IN NOVEMBER w/ Mo Troper!

 THE BIG 2

THE BIG 2

TOUR! The people demanded it, and boy is it happening! The only two rock bands left have finally decided to put aside differences and come together to create the kind of tour that only comes once in a lifetime. I wish that there were other bands, but unfortunately (hopefully not to get too offensive here) due to the current political climate (trump), this truly is the state of things. I suggested that to acknowledge this, we name the tour "The Only Two", but Mo suggested we put a more positive spin on it, more of a "big 2" kind of thing. And honestly I kind of like it. So the tour is "The Big 2" and it is the first tour that SEACATS has done since 2013, so needless to say please make it out if you can. Expect lotsa tour updates, new merch, new songs, new vids and all that good stuff coming from us soon. MORE INFO

VANFEST 2017

Vanfest is always one of the best days of the year, and this year we threw a carnival in celebration. Big big thank you to Daniel Johnson @ Photo.206 for taking these beautiful photos and documenting the day. And also to Van Wolfe, as usual, for putting on a great fest.

PS we got the website back up, and will be posting some updates about upcoming activities soon!

Top 3 Games of 2016/Top 3 Games of NOT 2016

For me, like most years before it, 2016 was the year of the backlog. Every year I intend to play every new unique indie release that hits steam and to keep an eye on which triple A titles are worth sinking my time and money into. Instead I just keep playing games from my ever growing log of titles that I need to get to. This year, I made sure to waste less of my free time doing nothing and spent more of it on my favorite hobby. In an effort to bring to some attention to the games of old that I played this year. while having a list that is relevant at all, here is a list (in no particular order) of my top three favorite games released in 2016 as well as the three best games that I played that did NOT release in 2016.

NEW song from Talktin and Easy

"No One in Control" is the second single from Talktin and Easy's upcoming record, "All In Our Family Of Trees". The beautiful single art was done by Sebastien Deramat.

Talktin is playing an acoustic show at Victory Lounge in Seattle on 1/3/16.

Here are some words to go with the music:

It seems only in a dream world can I grasp the reality that we may not be as individual as we would like to think. My existential egotistical self might just be trying to trick me into believing that my importance is material, and of great value. Thus I try to shape myself into the puzzle piece that fits into the greater human narrative.
But that's just the problem; predetermination overshadowing spontaneous creation.
Perhaps the same should be said about shaping yourself.
After all, we are just wild animals.
But I think we're much more wild when we're young.
That's when we're not shaping our selves at all. When all we are, are spontaneous actions.
What if we're not supposed to "grow up" from that at all?. Maybe we could be living the most exciting lives imaginable, simply by letting go of our desire for control.

Anyway, I'm gonna go check my Facebook now.

Talktin and Easy!

Oh wow, it's finally happening. This has been a long time coming... Here's the first single from the new Talktin and Easy record "All in Our Family of Trees"!!!

I'm so proud of this project... We're going to be releasing a new song from the record #everythreeweeks until March or so when we put the record out! Gwen at Seattle Mag was nice enough to premiere the song over on their website

http://www.seattlemag.com/band-week-talktin-and-easy

And then while you're at it you should go check out the Talktin and Easy website...

We put a bunch of work into it and there's cool stuff there there's even a weird text-based video game I made in there somewhere

trump

what just happened? so saddened and disappointed. I live in somewhat of a liberal bubble socially and I never thought in a million years trump could realistically win. So sad, and while it is a bit of kneejerk reaction, I feel that it's important at this time to state that SEACATS are pro-feminism, pro-black lives matter, pro-LGBTQ rights, etc.

basically anti- most of the things trump believes. I still have love for conservatives, but I don't plan to be as quiet about these things as I have been in the past. I have cared about these issues for a long time, but have not really spoken publicly partially for fear of "rocking the boat" socially, and partially because as a white straight male I do not encounter bigotry on a regular basis, and therefore can naively assume that things aren't as bad as they actually are.

One thing we can thank trump and this election cycle for is #makingartrelevantagain and we must all use our voices (artistically and otherwise) at this time to state our beliefs louder than ever. I am open to engage in meaningful dialogues with those who disagree with me. My thoughts are with everyone from the marginalized groups who are now dealing with the brunt of the emotional pain caused by this election.

SEACATS FOREVER EP

Welcome one, welcome all to SEACATS Universe. We've had this thing in the works for some time as a way to present our disparate content all together in one place. Think of it as part blog, part collective, part record label. So to start this thing off right, we are releasing a new SEACATS EP!

I'm very proud of this one and think y'all will enjoy it as well. Check out the new site, oh and also we're going to be releasing more new stuff soon! Next up will be the first single from the Talktin and Easy album :D
